Conflict is a necessary part of our lives. It can work as a productive force, making us address issues in different, newer and better ways. But negative conflict left unchecked can have a corrosive effect on individuals and organisations.

Conflict management is all about helping you to acquire the skills you need to be able to deal with conflict situations in a healthy and productive manner. It helps you to work through issues in order to arrive at point where the heat has been taken out of the matter, and everyone is contributing towards a positive resolution and a restoration of relationships.

Using a blend of mentoring, coaching and mediation skills, I work with parties in dispute to help them clarify the issues between them, and then jointly build a method of working together in a harmonious and productive manner.

In any organisation where teamwork is essential, poor conflict management can irretrievably damage relationships and ultimately affect your bottom line. Pent-up frustrations or outright expressions of anger cause stress and anxiety and lead to poor organisational culture, a disengaged workforce, and a knock-on effect in terms of employee retention problems.

I work with individuals or groups to instil a feeling of psychological safety, within which they can air their issues in complete confidence. From there, we work together to contextualise the issue, to depersonalise it, and build a structure to enable moving forward. Most importantly, they learn the skills required to avoid such situations arising in the future.

Each case will exist within it’s own context, and this is key to it’s successful resolution. There is no ‘one size fits all’ in conflict management.
